Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi
Arrive at your luxury accommodation in Nairobi and unwind, exploring the nearby shops and museums. Your safari adventure begins tomorrow!
Accommodation: One Forty-Eight - Giraffe Sanctuary, Nairobi
One Forty-Eight - Giraffe Sanctuary: Originally built as a private home, this boutique hotel displays the previous owner's collection of artwork--in fact, the suites have been converted from what was once the onside art studio. The hotel itself spares no modern convenience; delicious food and wine, beautifully appointed rooms and first class service make for a comfortable stay alongside designer shops, amazing restaurants, museums and wildlife.
Day 2: Borana Conservancy
Begin your journey in the Borana Conservancy, home to some of the highest populations of endangered species in Kenya. The activities here are endless—hiking, biking, horseback riding, game drives, take your pick.
Accommodation: Borana Lodge, Laikipia
Borana Lodge: As one of East Africa's original luxury safari experiences, Borana is an eco-lodge constructed with the environment in mind. Its secluded cottages are built around the contours of the hills, creating a natural haven of rock-forged walls and ranch wood furniture. Cottages boast an open fireplace, a spacious, en-suite bath and a private veranda, perfect for animal viewing.
Day 3: Borana Conservancy
Borana is a Big Five destination, so prepare for sightings as you explore the area further—hike along ancient elephant trails or visit the stunning blue pools and waterfalls of the Ngare Ndare Forest.
Accommodation: Borana Lodge, Laikipia
Day 4: Borana Conservancy
Get an inside look at the anti-poaching efforts currently underway in Borana. Then, spend the afternoon lounging by the pool (and soaking in the incredible mountain views).
Accommodation: Borana Lodge, Laikipia
Day 5: Maasai Mara National Reserve
Say hello to the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve and cross the rope bridge into your gorgeous safari camp on the banks of the Mara River.
Accommodation: Ngare Serian, Maasai Mara
Ngare Serian: ‘Ngare’ translates to ‘by the river’ in the Masai language, and the idea behind this snug little camp was to transport the serenity of the original Serian camp to the water’s edge. Hugging the banks of the Mara, Ngare Serian is cosy and intimate. It can only be reached on foot, over a narrow rope bridge – and in a way the crossover is symbolic: a call to step out of touch and out of time and give yourself over to the natural charm of the place. There’s something special about being on the water’s edge – the water slipping and sloshing over the stones sets a soothing soundtrack, but at the same time its energy and movement lends lightness and life – green shoots, verdant growth and glossy rocks that metamorphose into hippos.
Day 6: Ngare Serian, Maasai Mara
Explore the 1,500 acres of Ngare Serian's exclusive conservation area by foot (with your trusted safari guide, of course). The Mara houses the densest population of predators in Kenya—keep your eyes peeled!
Accommodation: Ngare Serian, Maasai Mara
Day 7: Ngare Serian, Maasai Mara
After an early morning game drive, spend a lazy afternoon back at camp overlooking the river while the birds sing in the background.
Accommodation: Ngare Serian, Maasai Mara
Day 8: Nairobi
Board your private charter back to Nairobi, where you'll spend the day exploring the local boutiques and elephant orphanage. This evening, you'll be driven to the airport for your onward journey. Farewell!
Activity Level: Moderate. Walking routes range from 3-4 hours including stops. Paths are not well worn in some areas and definitely require an adventurous spirit.

I love this creative operator's unusual itinerary, the opportunity for walkabouts instead of always game driving, and the unique boutique properties nestled deep in the wilderness.
