Itinerary
Day 1: Santa Cruz
Arrive to the Galápagos and transfer to your ship. This afternoon, travel to Santa Cruz Island and visit Los Gemelos (the twins), two volcanic craters in the Santa Cruz highlands, home to a variety of Galápagos birds such as the Galápagos hawk. Also observe the giant Galápagos tortoise in its native habitat. (This day includes Dinner.)
Day 2: Fernandina & Isabela
In the morning visit Mangle Point, a superior snorkeling site and a beautiful location for riding in a panga or zodiac through a grove of mangrove trees. A hike of about 1/2 miles is possible. See sea lions, tortoises, pelicans, rays and birds too numerous to name them all.
This afternoon head to Punta Moreno, located on the north coast of Isabela Island between the Sierra Negra and Cerro Azul Volcanoes. The trail runs along a lava flow Pahohoe (solidified lava in the form of corrugated or an accordion) into a complex of coastal lagoons.
Day 3: Isabela
The day starts with exploring Isabela Island. This morning, visit Urbina Bay, where you can see many Darwin's finches. Its main attraction is the land iguanas, larger than in places like South Plaza Island, and Galápagos tortoises in the wild. This area is also a great place for snorkeling and walking a path along the beach. Here you can find vegetation such as chamomile, Rosewood, and the beautiful flowers of cotton Darwin, endemic to the Galápagos Islands.
This afternoon, travel to Tagus Cove, once a favorite spot for pirates and whalers. Walk to a small cave where you can find inscriptions of the names of boats dating to the 1800s. The substrate has a large amount of volcanic rocks of different sizes, including little balls of nearly spherical shape known as the "lapilli" or petrified rain.
Day 4: Espinoza Point & Vicente Roca Point
This morning visit Espinoza Point, which is famous for its large colonies of marine iquanas and is the habitat of unique species like the flightless cormorant, Galápagos penguin, Galápagos hawk, and Galápagos snake. Visit Vicente Roca Point, one of the most impressive and spectacular places of the enchanted Galápagos Islands; high cliffs and tuffstone, ash and lava formations give this area a majestic touch. This bay is a great place to practice panga riding or snorkeling and observe a plethora of sea life!
Day 5: Santiago
Today, travel to Santiago Island and stop at Playa Espumilla, the site of an important Galápagos sea turtle nesting site. This area has an amazing palo santo forest and an incredible beach that is an important site for nesting marine turtles. This afternoon, visit Puerto Egas which is home to an amazing black sand beach. Volcanic tuff deposits have favored the formation of this special black sand beach -definitely an incredible site to see.
Day 6: Rábida & Chinese Hat
Rábida Island is unique because the red color of the rocks and sand.
The volcanic material in this island is very porous and external factors as rain, salt water, and sea breeze have acted as an oxidizing agent. Search for flamingos, finches, yellow warblers, doves, and mockingbirds. This afternoon, travel to Chinese Hat (Sombrero Chino) an island full of unique lava tubes and lava flows. The landscape is covered by sea lions colonies, marine iguanas, and Galápagos penguins.
